The Nintendo Switch 2 console originally released on June 5, 2025, offering both a standard edition and a bundle version with a digital code for Mario Kart World. Within its first few months, the console became the fastest-selling video game system of all time, surpassing its own predecessor and competitors like the PlayStation 4 and 5. As the holiday season approaches and big-name titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A ready to draw in new consumers, Nintendo is preparing for promising sales ahead with a surge in console production.

Switch 2 Sales Push Nintendo to Ramp Up Production for 2026

According to a report from Bloomberg, sources claim that Nintendo intends to have its suppliers produce 25 million Switch 2 units by March 2026, with current forecasts from assembly partners anticipating roughly 20 million consoles to be sold within the present fiscal year. Previous reports from Nintendo have shown incredible sales numbers for the Switch 2, with an estimated 2.4 million units sold in the United States alone by the end of August 2025. Total global sales for the Switch 2 within its first three months have been estimated to be roughly 77% higher than those of the original Switch within the same time frame, which has likely played a key role in Nintendo's decision to bolster production efforts.

Global sales are continuing to climb, and analysts predict another key bump to come from holiday sales throughout November and December. It remains to be seen just how many Switch 2 consoles will be sold by the end of 2025, but Nintendo appears to be taking early precautions by preparing for the early months of 2026.
