Dominic Dimino is a former Army combat medic who supported efforts after Hurricane Katrina and also did an 18-month tour in Afghanistan. He is now a senior analyst, business process for the direct-to-consumer group at T-Mobile. Domino applied for a job at T-Mobile after a friend told him great things about the company, and he found that the skills he acquired in the military played a big role in getting him the job.

Dimino participated in a question-and-answer session.

Q.: How has your military experience helped you in your work life at T-Mobile?

A.: "Being dependable, calm under pressure and [being] confidently spoken are all traits I acquired in the military. The attitude and way of life is what my boss knew they could expect of someone from the military and was the reason I have a job here today. ...

"My ability to stay calm under pressure is definitely the most valuable skill I developed in the military. I am responsible for the processes our reps use on a regular basis, and my ability to keep calm when there is chaos is paramount."

Q.: How does T-Mobile go above and beyond in its support of the military?

A.: "T-Mobile uses talent acquisition and a volunteer-based program that supports veterans who are looking for employment, as well as support for those currently employed. The group helps to support those deployed and their families, regardless of country served. The leadership here has been a tremendous support of our veterans as well."

Q.: What should service members do to prepare for their career transition?

A.: "I encourage others to make use of the education programs within the military, so when they get out, there are more options available. Also, look to add a new MOS [military occupational specialty] -- satellite, IT [information technology], etc. -- that can be used later for general employment."

Q.: What do employers look for in an ideal candidate?

A.: "Employers are searching for a 'golden' employee. They can train them on the details. Be that 'golden' employee. Be dependable, honest, confident and calm under pressure. These are traits the military helps instill, and we should play to those strengths. Demonstrate value in your interactions. Be honest with your knowledge. T-Mobile can train you with the skills they need, but you need to demonstrate your value for them to invest that time in you.

"Veterans will enjoy working at T-Mobile, because the telecommunications industry is cutting edge, ever-changing and evolving. T-Mobile's employees are a critical component of a company that sees outstanding customer experience as a mission. Every day, employees thrive on continual improvement, the spirit of adventure and a lot of camaraderie."

At T-Mobile, the experience and knowledge you've gained throughout your service and career will drive success and inspire all of us to do the same. The company has a Military Talent Network for veterans and military members to stay connected and learn more about working at T-Mobile (www.tmobile.jobs/talent-network/military).
