Fatigues to Fabulous, a campaign designed to help women veterans make the transition to civilian life, will kick off New York Fashion Week with a “Salute the Runway” fashion show showcasing fifteen current and former military servicewomen. The event takes place Wednesday, September 3rd in the tents at Lincoln Center.
The lineup will include three Marines, five Army soldiers, one Coast Guard sailor, one Air National Guard, three Air Force and two Navy servicewomen. Models from the IMG agency will coaching the women in their NYC runway debuts.
Fatigues to Fabulous has hosted a series of Salute the Runway events around the country over the last few months, including shows at Fort Bliss, Fort Hood and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. All models participating in the shows were selected from the ranks of female veterans and active duty members and the above photo was taken at the Fort Bliss event.
The shows are sponsored by Little Black Dress Wines and have featured the iconic little black dress, long touted as an essential wardrobe staple in every woman’s closet. The Lincoln Center show will include clothes from Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Carmen Marc Valvo, Mara Hoffman and BCBG. The event will also feature a display of historic uniforms dating back to World War I, courtesy of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation in Washington D.C.
