CD Projekt Red may have dropped its clearest hint yet that new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt content is on the way, with the company officially confirming the existence of an unannounced project that is currently in the works. The stated timing of the mysterious project and recent studio-related rumors both point to that undertaking being centered on a new The Witcher 3 DLC.

Rumblings about CDPR working on additional content for its hit 2015 open-world RPG have been circulating the industry for nearly a year. They started with a June 2025 report by Polish podcasters Rock and Boris, who claimed a third story DLC for The Witcher 3 was in development and planned to release over a decade after the game's launch. While no concrete content details were shared at the time, the report pointed to the DLC targeting a 2026 release.

CDPR Confirms Unannounced 'Gaming Project' Coming in 2026

What gives those earlier claims more weight is that CDPR parent company CD Projekt has now formally confirmed that one of its "heretofore unannounced gaming projects" is currently scheduled for a 2026 release. The remark was included in the management board report on company activities for the calendar year 2025. The document itself was attached to the group's consolidated financial report for Q3 2025, which is available on CD Projekt's investor website. The "gaming project" designation mentioned in the report is wide enough to potentially include a story expansion rather than a brand-new game. Meanwhile, the stated release timeline would match the original rumor about new content for The Witcher 3 being in the works for 2026.

During a separate earnings call from January 2026, CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the company would have more information later this year on a new project from Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio currently working on The Witcher 1 remake. Since the remake isn't expected to materialize before 2028, the 2026 announcement will presumably be centered on a different project. That is why some industry watchers have previously suspected Fool's Theory is leading development on the rumored third story DLC for The Witcher 3.

As with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the upcoming expansion is expected to be paid. A 2026 launch would allow it to drum up interest for The Witcher 4, which could go gold around 2027. The upcoming sequel is possibly the main reason CDPR opted to finance a new DLC for an 11-year-old game in the first place.
