Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast have revealed Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace, the next comic series for the popular franchise. Magic: The Gathering has already featured some notable comics, and this upcoming series promises to give fans a better look at one of the franchise’s characters.

Magic: The Gathering has come a long way since its genesis back in 1993. While it gained numerous fans as a card game, Wizards of the Coast expanded the franchise in the decades following its release. In addition to new sets for the Magic: The Gathering card game, other media related to its universe were published. For example, various comics based on Magic: The Gathering have been released over the years, providing fans with interesting stories based on the original card game.

Magic: The Gathering Announces New Untold Stories Comic Series About Jace Beleren

The next of these comics has been announced as Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace. As the name suggests, it follows Jace Beleren, a powerful Planeswalker and mind mage. According to Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast, this is a new four-issue miniseries, with the first installment being released on February 4, 2026. While fans will have to wait until next year to get their hands on a copy, Issue #1 of Untold Stories—Jace can be pre-ordered now at local comic shops for $4.99. Additionally, the publisher has shared several covers for Issue #1 by Caitlin Yarsky, Francesco Francavilla, and Aleksi Briclot, giving readers an idea of what might await them in the upcoming series.

Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace is written by Michael W. Conrad, an Eisner Award-winning author, and features illustration by Yarsky. The comic series is also lettered by Clayton Cowles and colored by Alex Guimarães. While not many details are known about the plot, Untold Stories—Jace will deal with the mind mage’s past and lost memories. According to the publisher, these memories detail a plot by his mentor, Tezzeret, that could alter Magic: The Gathering's Multiverse. Conrad also touched on the excitement of writing for Jace: "Beyond that, the lore surrounding him has captured my imagination, and has refused to let go.”
