A 91-year-old woman has reportedly drawn attention from the cops after becoming obsessive over a video game. The incident began with considerable concern on the part of the police, but the story has a happy and amusing ending.

Most gamers play without gaming becoming a full-fledged addiction, but even those who play them normally can lose track of time and occasionally ignore things they shouldn't when in the middle of a really good gaming session. It seems there's no age limit on the phenomenon, as that's what happened in this case.

91-Year-Old Gamer Gets Unexpected Police Visit

In Westlake, Ohio, a check-in program with the elderly received no response from a 91-year-old woman, and alerted the police. The program is designed to help protect elders who might get injured, fall, or otherwise be incapacitated in their home, so that help arrives in a timely manner, even if they can't reach a phone. The unnamed woman had apparently signed up for said service, but wasn't answering any calls. As a result, the cops were dispatched to her home, and received no response after knocking on the door, which intensified their concerns. However, upon entering the home via the garage, it turned out that the woman was just fine, playing video games in her room. She was apparently so fixated on her task that she had been ignoring all calls and knocking at the door while in her determined state.

A brief recording of a call to the dispatchers indicates that the police and the lady were having a good laugh about the happy misunderstanding. The cops noted that she was trying to beat her record on a level in a game, though no mention was made of what game had the 91-year-old's interest. The older gamer is apparently still glad to be a part of the program, but with some luck, she'll make sure to answer their calls, so the police don't have to make a repeat visit while she's gaming.

Elder gamers are certainly rarer than the younger variety, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. Grandma Shirley is a famous and popular example, who saw viral success through her Skyrim Let's Play videos. However, plenty of others have enjoyed games well into old age.
