World War II video game series “Brothers in Arms,” missing in action from gaming consoles for over a decade, is set to return as inspiration for a new television series developed by experienced showrunner Scott Rosenbaum (“Queens of the South,” “V,” “Gang Related”).

The first season will tell the story of the classified mission Exercise Tiger, a rehearsal for the D-Day invasion that was a spectacular failure.

"The story...has never been dramatized on TV," Rosenbaum told The Hollywood Reporter. "Almost 800 U.S. servicemen were killed and it had to be covered up because the Allies were preparing for the real Normandy invasion."

The series focuses on eight men who must rescue their colonel from Axis powers before the enemy can learn of the D-Day plans, but Rosenbaum also plans to highlight German troops in his story.

"What I liked and hadn’t seen before, is we explore German soldiers and civilians and those in high command on both sides," says Rosenbaum. "We meet all these real people and see the effect and the big puzzle."

Video game developer Gearbox is actively looking for a high-profile partner to air the series and they’re looking to recruit high-profile directors to the project. Even if the series lands a deal in the next few weeks, production won’t begin until after the COVID-19 pandemic ends.

The most recent console title “Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway” was released in 2008. There was a series of spinoffs for mobile devices but the most recent release “Brothers in Arms 3: Sons of War” came out for iOS and Android in 2014.
