It's summer and that means the kids are home. They're waking you up asking, "Where are we going today?" "What are we doing today?"
Most summer days have an easy agenda: summer camp, beach, pool, outdoor play. But what do you do on a rainy day?
Luckily, there are ways to save a gloomy summer day and still have a fun time! Here are 7 frugal ways to enjoy a rainy day with military discounts:
There are a wide variety of museums that offer military discounts and that provide a learning experience for your kids, including the Crime Museum in D.C, Nauticus in Norfolk, Virginia and the Blue Star Museums program, which offers military discounts at museums throughout the country. The best part? The kids will have so much fun they won't even know they are gaining knowledge!
Regal Cinemas has $1 movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the summer months. These movies are in the morning and can save a rainy day. Many movie theaters, like AMC and Cinemark, offer military discounts, and some military installations have discounted movie theaters as well. (Click here to find your local military base.)
3. Go bowling.
Through the Kids Bowl Free program, select bowling centers allow kids to have 2 free bowling games per day during the hot and often stormy summer days. You'll need to pay for shoes but games are free. And remember that, like movie theaters, some military bases have bowling centers that are discounted.
4. Create crafts.
You may not have crafting supplies just laying around the home, but simply visit Michael's and grab your 10% military discount. Maybe you'd like to add some decals to a kids room or "mancave?” Check out the 20% military discount you can score at Fathead.
5. Burn calories (and energy).
Visit your local gym and teach your child the value of taking care of yourself. Burn some calories and let the kids burn off some energy as well. 6. Complete a home project.

7. Go to an amusement park.
We have season passes to Busch Gardens and have found that overcast/rainy days can be the best. You beat the crowds and get to enjoy all the shows you would skip on sunny days (and military can score free admission). Many amusement parks throughout the country offer military discounts.
