The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education (DANTES) is offering service members a limited-time do-over for its college credit testing program.
From Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2019, DANTES will be offering free exam retake vouchers to every test participant who doesn't pass the DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) on their first try.
DSST prior-learning exams offer a quick and easy way to earn college credit. With more than 30 exam titles to choose from, these exams shorten the pathway to graduation while reducing college costs.
More information about DSST examinations.
There are currently more than 1,900 schools that accept the DSST exams for college credit. DANTES funds active-duty, National Guard and reserve military members' first attempt on any DSST exam.
You can take any exam at an on-base or on-campus facility. More than 500 military installations deliver internet-based DSST exams worldwide, making it easy for service members to gain valuable educational credentials while on active duty.
Veterans eligible for the GI Bill can be reimbursed for DSST exams. DSST is an approved VA National Testing Program. All others must pay a fee starting at $85 per test.
Only exams taken between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, 2019, are eligible for this promotion. Free DSST Exam Retake Vouchers are issued for failed exams only and must be redeemed by Dec. 10, 2019.
You must wait 30 days before retaking a failed exam. This promotion does not apply to the Principles of Public Speaking exam or any paper-based tests. You may still have to pay test center fees.
