About Patricia Kime

Patricia Kime focuses on military personnel and veterans' issues for Military.com, reporting on health care, military families, benefits and military justice. She has covered defense issues for more than three decades, reporting on combat-related illnesses and injuries, veterans' health care and benefits, the Defense Department, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Congress and the executive branch.

Patricia began her journalism career in Jacksonville, North Carolina, covering city government and military family issues during the 1990-91 Persian Gulf War. She has worked for local, regional and national newspapers near Quantico, Virginia; Twentynine Palms and Palm Springs, California; and northern Virginia, covering education, the environment, military families, military-civilian relations and more.

She has earned accolades throughout her lengthy career, including being honored in 2015 for her work covering veterans issues by the advocacy group HillVets and with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation Honorable Mention for National Defense Reporting in 2022 for a series on the connection between suicide and traumatic brain injury.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, KFF Health News and elsewhere.

In her spare time, Kime runs to stay ahead of the Marine Corps Marathon straggler bus and is restoring an 18th-century home with her husband in Tidewater, Virginia.
