The Long Way Home
Kate MacEachern served 8 years in the Canadian Army as a Tanker. At work in 2007 she suffered grievous injuries including a broken neck, spinal cord damage and a fractured skull. Her family was told she would remain in a vegetative state indefinitely... she walked out 9 days later. She also suffered a stroke from her injuries but recovered to return to work, and walk 574km, raising $20,000 for disabled soldiers over 19 days in 2012. Kate is about to finish her 1864km walk to Ottawa to raise donations and awareness of PTSD for Military Minds. Kate represents what's best of the military to me. Through her courage, her selfless sacrifice, and her strength of character she demonstrates not only what's best about the Canadian Forces, but our country.
