At around 6:00 am on Sunday, August 10, Palestinian terrorists in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip deliberately and continuously fired rockets at the Kerem Shalom border crossing. Despite this attack, the IDF continued to transfer goods into Gaza. More than 30 trucks of humanitarian supplies passed through the crossing during this time. At around 12:30 pm, another barrage of rockets was fired at the Kerem Shalom crossing. Once again, rockets struck directly inside the crossing, endangering the lives of all the workers at the crossing. As a result of this attack, the crossing was forced to close. One rocket nearly hit trucks that were carrying flammable substances on their way to Gaza. The Kerem Shalom crossing has remained open throughout Operation Protective Edge despite the incessant rocket fire in the area of the crossing. The crossing is the sole point of entry for essential humanitarian aid and supplies for Palestinian civilians living in the Gaza Strip. The crossing will reopen when workers can safely operate in the area.
