GAU-17 Vulcan Minigun Training From USS USS John P. Murtha

    PACIFIC OCEAN (March 28, 2019) Marine Sgt. Cade Allen, from Bartlesville, Okla., fires a GAU-17 "Vulcan" minigun at a fast inshore attack craft during a live-fire exercise on board a UH-1Y Venom, assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 (Reinforced). The GAU-17 is a six-barreled, air cooled, medium machine gun used primarily as a fire suppression weapon in aircraft. USS John P. Murtha is underway conducting routine operations as a part of USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
