Extraordinary Heroism: Airman Alaxey Germanovich Describes Grueling 8-Hour Battle

    Staff Sgt. Alaxey Germanovich, a Special Tactics combat controller with the 26th Special Tactics Squadron, 24th Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, received the nation’s second highest medal for gallantry against an armed enemy of the U.S. in combat. On April 8th, 2017, Germanovich, was attached to the 7th Special Forces Group and coalition team in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. When overan by enemy forces, the team fought for their lives in a grueling 8 hour battle. The events of that day led to Germanovich receiving the Air Force Cross. We remember all who fought that day and honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Mark De Alencar who was killed in action. (U.S. Air Force video)
