Ambush in Sadr City: NatGeo Films 'The Long Road Home'

The National Geographic Channel just premiered its first full-length trailer for the new drama series The Long Road Home. Set to air in November, the program is based on the 2004 in-country experiences of the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, TX. They were ferociously ambushed on April 4th in Sadr City, Baghdad in an attacked that became known as “Black Sunday.”

Based on ABC News journalist Martha Raddatz’s New York Times best-selling book, the series will cut between the action on the ground in Iraq and on the home front back in Texas, where wives and families must wait 48 hellish hours for news, all the while expecting the worst.

The cast features Michael Kelly (House of Cards) as Lt. Col. Gary Volesky, Jason Ritter (Parenthood) as Capt. Troy Denomy, Jeremy Sisto (Law & Order) as Staff Sgt. Robert Miltenberger, Kate Bosworth (Blue Crush) as Gina Denomy and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break) as LeAnn Volesky.
