It's not always easy being a military kid. But free food certainly makes it seem a little better, especially when that food involves treats offered just to military kids in celebration of how awesome they are.

Each year, the Pentagon sets aside April to celebrate the Month of the Military Child. As part of that, the Army and Air Force Exchange System celebrates Purple Up Day on April 13, and offers all kinds of exchange restaurant deals to make the day just a little tastier.

So what's on the menu? Depending on where you live and the restaurants available on your Army or Air Force base, it could be a whole bunch of yum.

Here's a quick rundown:

  • Arby's -- chocolate chip cookie
  • Baskin-Robbins -- kid's cone
  • Burger King -- vanilla soft serve
  • Charley's Philly Steaks -- small lemonade
  • Dunkin' Donuts -- doughnut
  • Manchu Wok -- egg roll
  • Pizza Hut -- five-piece cinnamon sticks
  • Popeyes -- cinnamon apple pie
  • Starbucks -- cake pop
  • Subway -- two cookies
  • Taco Bell -- cinnamon twists
  • All other restaurants -- small or kid's-size soft drink

The freebies are for kids 18 years or younger, and available only on April 13 while supplies last, exchange officials said in a news release.

And if you need to grab a coffee while your military kid eats that cake pop, remember -- using a Military Star Card gets you 10 percent off at all of those exchange restaurants. Score.
