As with many things this year, the annual Military Spouse Employment Summit, hosted by Hiring Our Heroes (HoH), is moving to a virtual event.
Following the example of military spouses and their adaptability over the years, this summit will show the long-term benefits of "innovative employment solutions adopted during the global pandemic and how these solutions, such as remote work, impact military spouses," according to the HoH website.
The event will unveil the results of a new white paper, "Military Spouse Career Journeys: Examining Entrepreneurship, Remote Work, and Upskilling as Drivers of Economic Opportunity for Military Spouses," and debut the Military Spouse Roadmap -- a free digital tool for military spouses to use on their career journey.
Tina Brown, the award-winning author of "The Diana Chronicles," will host this year's event. And military spouse Brianna Keilar, anchor of CNN Right Now, will moderate a panel with Gen. James C. McConville, chief of staff of the U.S. Army, and his spouse, Maria.
Attendees will also hear real unemployment stories from Tiffany Smiley, an ambassador at Hiring Our Heroes and a well-known voice in the military spouse community. Additional panel topics include the adaptability of the community during COVID-19; how upskilling and reskilling gives military spouses a competitive advantage; and information behind the research-based approach to overcoming obstacles in employment.
Panel participants include familiar names such as Lakesha Cole, owner of she PR; Meghan Ogilvie, CEO of Dog Tag Bakery; Ann Weeby, head of Salesforce Military at Salesforce; and Rosemary Williams, specialist executive at Deloitte.
The free online event will be held Sept. 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET, and everyone is invited, including employers who are interested in learning more about hiring and employing military spouses. To register to attend, visit the website.
