Military spouses who have moved in the last six months or are married to a recently transition veteran can now claim a free LinkedIn Premium account upgrade, officials announced in a July 25 email.

The new free upgrade was originally announced June 11. The email was sent to a Military OneSource listserve.

LinkedIn's Premium accounts typically cost $29.99 per month, or $299.88 annually.

Veterans can access the premium features through a long running separate veterans' program. And some spouses were in the past able to get a free upgrade by emailing customer support, a loophole a spokesperson told us was "a happy accident."

Eligible spouses can now claim their one year free upgrade by logging into the military's spouse employment site, SECO, here. Those who don't yet have an account will be prompted to make one. The system will check the users credentials against the DoD database to see if she or he is eligible.

Unlike the free veteran upgrade which is good for a year on a one time basis, spouses will be able to claim the upgrade in a six month window after every military move.

The upgrade also comes with access to LinkedIn's learning path designed for military spouses, which is packed with pertinent courses.

As we noted before, like all Military OneSource benefits this one is unfortunately not available to Coast Guard spouses, since it is specifically tied to the Defense Department.
