1 June 2012 Military Pay/Memorial Day

One week until Memorial Day and the questions are flying in:  will I get paid before Memorial Day?  Unfortunately, it is unlikely that you will see the deposit for the 1 June 2012 pay day before Memorial Day.  Even with the generous early posting policies of many banks and credit unions, it is still an entire week between the start of the Memorial Day weekend and pay day.

The next military pay day is 1 June 2012 and it  falls on a Friday.  Most active duty service members will see their active duty military pay posted to their accounts some time on Friday, 1 June 2012.  Some banks and credit unions offer early direct deposit of military pay as a courtesy to their customers, and the dates and timing depends on the bank and even what kind of account you maintain.

Customers who bank with a financial institution who always post active duty direct deposits one business day early will see their pay available on Thursday, 31 May 2012.  These banks include USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union.  Please don't forget that deposits can come at any time during the day.

Service Credit Union strives to deposit pay up to two days early, dependent on the receipt of the pay file from DFAS.  If they are able to post two days early this time, that would be Wednesday, 30 May 2012.

Navy Federal Credit Union has two different posting dates, depending on what type of checking account you use.  If you have an Active Duty checking account, your pay will be pending on Wednesday, 30 May 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Thursday, 31 May 2012.  If you have any other type of checking account, your pay will be pending on Thursday, 31 May 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 1 June 2012.  Not sure about your Navy Federal checking account?  Read NFCU Checking Account Types:  Active Duty vs. Others.

If this pay period seems long to you, it might be.  More information can be found at A Three Week Pay Period?
