Memorial Day is set aside to honor those who have given their lives in defense of our country. We must also honor and support those whom they left behind -- the husbands, wives, parents, siblings, children and friends. Their ongoing sacrifice is also great.
The Travis Manion Foundation was created to do just that; honor and serve the fallen, wounded veterans, and their families. The foundation is named for 1st Lt. Travis Manion. Travis was killed by enemy sniper fire while fighting courageously to defend against an enemy ambush. At his memorial service in Fallujah, an Iraqi Colonel spoke and shared that Travis was his brother, “a brave warrior who never feared the death.” Travis’ mark remains in Iraq and in the hearts of all who honor freedom and service. Travis was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star w/ Valor for his actions in Iraq.
The following was taken directly from the Travis Manion Foundation website:
"The Foundation's Mission is to assist our nation's veterans and the families of Fallen Heroes. We will continue the service to community and country exemplified by these Fallen Heroes and veterans. In the spirit of the Fallen, we will foster strength of mind and body to create a generation of future leaders."
