As reported here yesterday, passage of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 stood the chance of being held up due to a section which allowed the military to hold terrorism suspects indefinitely. However, it was announced today that the House and Senate had agreed to exempt U.S. citizens from the provision, making it much less likely to be vetoed by the President. This means that the 2012 1.6 percent pay increase should be safe.
Dec. 15 Update: According to reports, the House is continuing to struggle over the provision that would require the military to detain terrorism suspects instead of the FBI. The same reports claim that the President may still veto the bill over this issue, thus delaying the 2012 pay increase.
