The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recently launched a financial coaching program aimed at the 250,000 servicemembers who leave active duty every year and other vulnerable consumers. Based out of job centers and nonprofits around the country, 60 financial coaches will be available to meet with veterans to help them get on top of their finances. The coaching services are provided free-of-charge. The Department of Defense offers a Transition Assistance Program (TAP), but many transitioning servicemembers lack experience in money management, and find after they leave the service that they may need help in reworking the financial plan they made while in TAP.
