Adapted from the civilian DC-9 airliner, the C-9 Skytrain is used primarily for personnel transport and aeromedical evacuation. In service for more than 40 years, the U.S. Air Force retired its last C-9 in 2011. The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps still operate 17 C-9 Skytrains.
The Navy is set to replace its fleet of C-9 Skytrains with the C-40 Clipper.
