The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are used for admission to Graduate Schools. While they aren't necessary for admission they are similar to the SAT & ACT tests, since schools use them to predict which candidates are a good fit for their programs.
The GRE test can be taken for a specific subject, or you can take the general GRE test.
Veterans can be reimbursed for the cost of these tests using their GI Bill.
Active duty members can be reimbursed for one GMAT and one each of the GRE general and GRE subject tests while in the service. If you wish to take more than one you either have to pay for it yourself or use your GI Bill.
DANTES will only reimburse you for the actual cost of the test, you can't be reimbursed for such things as travel expenses, late fees, rescheduling fees, service charges, etc.
To be eligible for DANTES reimbursement of the GMAT or GRE fees, you must, at the time of testing, possess a current "Armed Forces of the United States" identification card and meet the following requirements:
- Have never taken a DANTES funded GMAT paper-based or GMAT CAT or GRE General Examination.
- Be applying to or enrolled in a graduate school requiring the GMAT or GRE General.
- Be fulfilling a legitimate service requirement.
- Apply for reimbursement within 90 days of the scheduled test date.
You are responsible for scheduling the GMAT or GRE General, paying all fees. You must submit an online request for reimbursement to DANTES after you get your score. Usually you need a copy of your payment receipt and test results to be reimbursed.
