The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a 7.87% increase to Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) subsistence rates for fiscal year 2023. These rates are effective Oct. 1, 2022 and will be reflected in the Nov. 1 payment.
The VR&E program was formerly known as the Vocational Rehabilitation and Education program.
The subsistence allowance is paid monthly and is based on how many classes you are attending as well as the number of dependents you have. The new rates for fiscal year 2023 are as follows:

Subsistence Allowance For Post-9/11 GI Bill Eligible Trainees
If you are enrolled in the Veterans Readiness training program and eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill you may be eligible to receive a housing allowance based on the military Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents. This is based on the ZIP code of the location where the training occurs.
If you are a full-time trainee you will receive the full BAH; a 1/2 time trainee receives 1/2 the BAH, etc.
These amounts update on Jan. 1 of every year instead of Oct. 1.

Veterans with a VA disability rating and an employment handicap may be entitled to VR&E services including counseling, training, education and job placement assistance.
