An aircraft from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, crashed Wednesday afternoon in a training accident, injuring two people, according to a base press release.
The incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. over a training area, Robert Jenkins, a spokesman for Fort Campbell, told Military.com.
Many details are unknown at this time, while the accident is under investigation, he said.
"The aircraft went down, and the two people on it were recovered and transferred to the hospital," Jenkins said. "We don't know what all happened, but it did crash."
The email containing the press release listed "MH-6 training incident" in the subject line, but was quickly recalled. MH-6 Little Birds are helicopters used by special operations forces to deliver operators into combat, especially during raids.
Jenkins would not confirm the type of aircraft involved in the crash.
He also would not say whether the individuals were soldiers, members of another service or civilians. They were transported to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, but their names and the nature of their injuries are not releasable at this time, the release states.
