Zoos are a fun way to spend a sunny day while learning about animals and spending quality family time together. But admission fees can be costly.
So we've put together a list of zoos around the country that offer military discounts year-round. Several zoos also offer special deals on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July so check back during those holidays.
Keep in mind that some of these discounts are only available at the ticket window and not online, while some require advanced reservations. Either way, don’t forget to bring your military ID!
The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage offers a $4 military discount on admission for active-duty military and veterans. Tickets can be purchased both online and at the gate. Active-duty and veteran military members also get 10% off their annual membership if they buy it at the admissions gate with valid proof of service.
Active-duty military, veterans, reservists and dependents get a $3 military discount on general admission to the Birmingham Zoo in Alabama.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate to receive a military discount at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida.
At the Bronx Zoo in New York, active-duty military and veterans receive a complementary Bronx Zoo Admission or Limited Admission ticket for themselves and 50% off tickets for up to three guests. Advance ticket reservations are required.
The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado, offers a military discount of $3 off to all active-duty personnel and veterans throughout the year.
At the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ohio, military personnel and their families receive $5 off adult and child admission with a valid ID. Active-duty military and veterans also receive a 10% discount on all membership levels with a military or veteran ID at a Ticketing Window.
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio offers a $2 military discount on up to six admission tickets. Tickets must be purchased at the front gate.
Get a $2 military discount on admission at the Dallas Zoo in Texas for up to two adults and two children. This discount isn't available with the special pricing in January and February.
Active-duty military and their spouses get a $3 discount on admission with ID at the El Paso Zoo in Texas.
The Greenville Zoo in South Carolina offers active-duty military, retired military and their spouses and children a military discount on admission.
The military discount at the Honolulu Zoo in Hawaii includes $11 off adult admission and $7 off child admission. Children ages two and under get in free.
At the Houston Zoo in Texas, veterans and active-duty military receive 50% off general admission tickets for up to five guests all year long (two adults and three children). A reservation is required as well as proof of service when presenting your ticket for admission.
At the Indianapolis Zoo in Indiana, military members and their families get a $2 discount on the purchase of up to four tickets per visit with ID.
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in Florida offers a 10% military discount off the General Admission price for everyone in your party. Show your military ID at the Guest Relations window to receive the discount. The zoo also offers a 10% military discount on memberships.
The Los Angeles Zoo offers a military discount for active and retired service members. The discount applies for up to six people per party, and tickets must be purchased at the Zoo. (The discount is not available online.)
Active-duty service members receive free general admission to the Louisville Zoo in Kentucky. Dependents of active military personnel receive 10% off general admission at the Zoo’s ticket windows. Military families can also contact Ft. Knox ITR to check for discounts on general admission tickets.
The Montgomery Zoo in Alabama offers a $1 military discount on admission with a valid ID.
The Nashville Zoo offers a 47 to 50% admission discount (depending on the day of visit) for military personnel and everyone in their party when they present their military ID.
The Oklahoma City Zoo in Oklahoma offers a 50% discount on general admission to active-duty military members, veterans, National Guard and Reserves and up to four guests with valid military ID. This discount does not require online advanced purchases.
The Omaha Zoo in Nebraska offers a military discount on daily admission tickets for adults and children.
Palm Beach Zoo in Florida offers active, reservist, and retired members of the military free admission, as well as 50% off admission for up to three members of their group.
The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Pennsylvania offers active-duty military, Reservists, and veterans $5 off general daytime admission with proper identification on all operating days of the year. (The discount does not apply to family members or dependents.)
At Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, South Carolina, get a $2 military discount off general admission.
Active-duty service members get complimentary admission at the San Diego Zoo in California.
Military spouses and dependents receive a 10% discount off the One-Day Pass. And while the zoo doesn't have a discount for veterans, Morale, Welfare and Recreation offices at local bases may be able to help with deals.
The San Francisco Zoo in California offers retired and active military personnel the San Francisco resident rate, which is $3 off adult admission.
The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, Virginia, offers $2 off general admission for active-duty military, veterans and dependents.
Active-duty military, reservists and veterans receive free admission to Zoo Atlanta in Georgia. Family members and guests must pay regular admission rates.
Zoo Tampa in Florida offers active-duty military and veterans $4 off per ticket on up to four tickets with a form of ID to verify your military status. Buy your tickets at the front gate ticket windows.
