At the end of a deadly summer for the Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, two allied service members were killed in action Thursday in Kabul, officials said.
In a brief release, Resolute Support officials said one of the military members was from the United States and the other was from Romania. Information about the mission the troops were participating in and the units to which they were attached was not immediately released; Romania and the U.S. military will disclose further details individually, officials said.

NATO officials confirmed the troops were killed in a horrific suicide car bombing in central Kabul. Multiple local reports cited Afghan officials reporting at least 10 people were killed in the bombing, and some 42 wounded. The bombing took place near the U.S. Embassy, according to reports.
The Resolute Support mission is headquartered in Kabul.
The U.S. service member is the 16th to die in hostile action this year in Afghanistan, in what has become the most costly year for the U.S. in the country since the formal close of war operations in 2014.
