A commissary curbside grocery pickup service will not expand to new locations any time soon, despite an announcement last summer that it would do so, officials confirmed this week.
The service, known as Click2Go, is available at three commissaries in the U.S. -- Fort Lee, Virginia; Travis Air Force Base, California; and Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Begun as a pilot program in 2013, patrons order their groceries online, select a pick-up time, and retrieve them and pay from a specific pick-up area outside the store. The service is currently free.
Commissary officials early last July said they were developing a plan to expand the program and would announce new locations "soon." They also planned to add a fee for using the service, which they said "would be in line with grocery retailers."
But the Defense Commissary Agency is in the process of updating its business system, known as the Enterprise Business Solution. Completing that update, said Kevin Robinson, a commissary spokesman, is required before Click2Go expands. Any new location launch would also require the installation of a delivery area and call button adjacent to the store.
"We are taking strides toward eventual expansion," he said.
As of July 2017, Click2Go orders made up about 2 percent of total sales at the three locations where the service is available. But the average total order for each use was $150 -- about 60 percent higher than the average total transaction made inside the store, officials said at the time.
