If you are registered for Department of Veterans Affairs health care and believe you have hearing loss, you should contact your local medical center for a hearing test.

The VA audiologist will make a clinical determination on the need for hearing aids and/or other hearing-assistive devices. If hearing aids are recommended and fit, the hearing aids, repairs, and future batteries will all be at no charge to you, as long as you maintain VA eligibility for care.

VA provides hearing aids to the following veterans:

  • Those with any service-connected disability
  • Former prisoners of war
  • Purple Heart recipients
  • Those rated permanently housebound or in need of regular aid and attendance
  • Those with hearing impairment resulting from diseases or a medical condition for which they are getting VA care or disability
  • Those who have hearing impairment severe enough that it interferes with their ability to participate actively in their own medical treatment or daily living

VA provides top-of-the-line hearing aids. VA will also provide you any necessary maintenance of those hearing aids such as replacement batteries, cleaning and adjustments.
