If two military members are married to each other but are stationed apart what is their Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) entitlement?
Dual military couples, without other dependents, who are not stationed together are generally treated as single members for BAH purposes. However, this changes if there are dependents involved.
When both members maintain separate households at or in the vicinity of their PDS or PDSs, each is individually authorized BAH. If there is a dependent child from their marriage only one of the members can claim the child as a dependent for BAH purposes. The other person will still be entitled to BAH for a single member for them alone.
If there are more than one dependent children in the family and each military member has at least one of the children living with them they may both receive BAH at the with dependents rate.
