The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protects you from losing health or life insurance coverage if you join the military, are called to active duty, deployed or PCS overseas.
Health Insurance Protection Under SCRA
If you are called to active duty, or mobilized you can reinstate any health insurance that was in effect on the day before you were activated once you get out.
Life Insurance Protection Under SCRA
Your life insurance policy is protected against lapse, termination, and forfeiture for nonpayment of premiums for the entire length of service plus two years.
Activated reserves also become eligible for the Servicemember's Group Life Insurance (SGLI).
Contact your local legal office for more information.
Cover Your Bases Before Activation or Deployment
SGLI may not be enough to cover your family's needs. Explore life insurance options with our free tool that compares rates and matches you to the coverage your family needs.
